Updated: Jun 30, 2018
In 2017, we had many different types of smartphones that had many features that were good and bad. But the question is "What is the best smartphone to buy?" Let's get started by taking a trip down memory lane.
HTC U Ultra and HTC U Play
Sony Xperia XZ Premium
Huawei P10 and P10 Plus
Nokia 3310, Nokia 6, Nokia 5, Nokia 3
Samsung Galaxy s8 and s8+
Moto Z2 Force and Z2 Play
Samsung Galaxy Note 8
iPhone 8 and 8 Plus
Google Pixel 2 and Pixel 2XL
Huawei Mate 10
As you can see, 2017 had a lot of different smartphones come out at almost every month of the year. We always get new smartphones right away as the New Year rolls in but, do you want to pay an expensive phone? I know I don't. With the "old" phones getting forgotten about, they have some pretty great features that some new phones have but don't work. Let's list the top 10 smartphones that you should look into buying.
Don't get me wrong, these smartphone's are all wonderful and great at the same time, but we want to give you the best ones to pick from.
10. LG V30
The LG V30 is a great smartphone that takes away the LG G6. It has pretty much no bezels and rocks a dual camera like no other smartphone. The pictures and quality aren't that great, but it will do the job. The software and interface of Android Nougat running on this phone is smooth. It also has a nice glass and metal look and feel. *Note that is doesn't offer wireless charging.* The price for off contract is $813.55. It's a high price, but it will do the job for anyone looking for a high-end tech smartphone.
9. Essential Phone
Now the Essential Phone is a new phone that came to the market in 2017. The price when it first came out was pricey for a phone like this. It doesn't have all the bells and whistles like a good camera or display, but it came with the first ever phone to have a no bezel-less display with the camera and a little bit of the bottom of the display showing. The phone is covered in all glass and metal and has an awesome modular pin design near the camera on the back of the phone. Right now the phone only has a 360º camera for the modular pins, but the company promised more in the feature. The price is now lowered to $499.99.
8. Moto Z2 Play and Z2 Force
The Motorola Z2 Play and Force are the second generation of the fantastic Moto Z series. The Moto Z's have a modular design to attach different things like sound speaker from JBL, a camera, wireless charger back, and a projector that projectors anything that you want. The Z2 Play and Force don't have the best camera or display on a phone, but has a better customized phone then any other. The Z2 Play has one single camera on the back of the phone and the Z2 Force has a dual-camera like the Moto X4. Both phones have an all aluminum design with a big battery for the whole day. Also the Z2 Force has a non-breakable screen. The price for the Z2 Play is $408.00 and the Z2 Force is $720.00 with a free Moto mod projector.
7. Blackberry KEYone
Now don't get me started with this phone. The Blackberry KEYone has the best and biggest battery in a smartphone yet. With just a 3505 mAh battery, it will last you a whole day. Blackberry really stepped up their game with this phone showing that having android with security can help you along the way. This is the better alternative phone then the Blackberry Priv. The KEYone has a full body keyboard to press when texting or twitting. It also has an aluminum body with a nice texture on the back of the phone to help you grip the phone better. The display and camera quality again aren't the best, but luckily the price of the phone can be a win. With the price being fairly cheaper then an Apple phone or Samsung, it is $549.00 off contract.
6. iPhone 8 and 8Plus
The iPhone 8 and 8Plus are the lower flagship of Apple's 2017 line up with the iPhone X being the highest flagship phone. The iPhone 8 and 8Plus aren't the best change of design from the iPhone 7 series. The phones come with the same camera quality as the 7 and battery size. The phones got a new phone chip and it makes the phones go faster then ever. It also comes with an all glass design on the back of the phone so you can now have wireless charging. The only difference for the camera is a new portrait mode for the plus model on the front camera and back camera. The prices for these phones range from $699.00 to $949.99.
5. Samsung Galaxy s8 and s8+
Now looking at these phones, they both look exactly the same with the same camera's, display, and other specs. The only difference is the battery and size of these two phones. These two phones marked a milestone of Samsung's first ever bezel-less phones with 18:9 ratio of screen. These phones can seriously throw a party with the best looking phone every made. Holding and using the phone makes you want to switch to Android because of the looks and smoothness of the interface. Both phones have so many different types of security like a fingerprint sensor, face id, iris scanner, and more. The two phones also come with great colors including Midnight Black, Arctic Sliver, Orchid Gray, Maple Gold, and the best looking color, Coral Blue. The prices range from $724.99 to $824.99.
4. OnePlus 5t
I can't really write about this phone because I never got to hold one or play with one in person. I can tell you what it's all about though. The OnePlus 5t is the second generation of the OnePlus 5 that also came out in 2017. But the differences come with the look and design. Instead of the fingerprint sensor being on the front of the phone, it's on the back to make way for the 18:9 ratio screen. The reviews on this phone have been amazing and no one can say anything bad. If a fingerprint sensor isn't for you, you can use OnePlus' face id feature. It's not as fast as the iPhone X, but it is really good. The price for this phone is so budget friendly, it costs only $499.99.
3. Samsung Galaxy Note 8
The Samsung Galaxy Note 8 is a redesign and a non-blowing up phone. You have probably heard of the blowing up Note 7, but Samsung fixed it. This new Samsung Note phone has all the bells and whistles that a phone should have. It has an awesome display, battery, camera, and fast security of an Android phone. If you even tried to compare this phone to a regular Android phone, they both wouldn't even stack up next to each other. The Note 8 is technically the "plus" model of the s8 and s8+. If you want this phone, you are going to need to save up like the iPhone X. The Note 8 is $950.00 off contract.
2. iPhone X
The iPhone X is Apple's 10th year anniversary phone since the original iPhone. The phone is an all glass and stainless steel design. This is Apple's first ever bezel-less phone. The front and back camera on this phone is amazing and can take awesome photos. The display of course is the best as a Samsung phone, because Samsung (yes Samsung) made the iPhone X's display. Everyone is complaining that the phones notch on the top of the display is an eye soar, but I think differently. I can't notice it when using it on a daily bases and using it to watch videos doesn't bother me either. The phone like the iPhone 8 and 8Plus has wireless charging and the same A11 bionic chip in the phone. The 5.8" screen looks like it was painted on the glass with the beautiful and vibrant colors. In my preference, I prefer the silver (white) color for my phone. Each phone has a black display for the seen bezels on the front of the phone. Now you can get any color (only two) for your phone and not be bother by the white color on the glass. The price isn't the best ranging from $999.99 to $1149.99. Good Luck saving up!
1. Google Pixel 2 and 2XL
And lastly but not least, the Google Pixel 2 and Pixel 2XL. These phones were one of the best phones of 2017 with the best camera to ever be on a smartphone at the time. Both phones have the same exact features besides the size, screen, and battery. The smaller version Pixel 2 has it's phone made by HTC, while the Pixel 2XL is made by LG. The single camera is better then a dual camera on a smartphone. Both phones are very attracting with the XL's "Panda" color (shown on the left) and the regular 2's "Kinda Blue" (shown on the right). I personally own a Pixel 2 because of the "Kinda Blue" color and the screen. I love the bezels on the Pixel 2 because of the way it looks. The XL's version has had so many problems with it's display and bezel-less design. The better version for me was the regular Pixel 2. The phones also do not come with wireless charging. The prices range from $649.00 to $749.00. *Note that these phones are made for Verizon, but can work on Sprint because of CDMA.*
